This evening gown designed by Evan Riley for Desirée Armfeldt and the 11 O’clock number “Send in the Clowns” was based on research from the late 19th Century.
Through conversation with the designer and my own research, I developed this two piece dress. The bodice, comprised of 41 pattern pieces, features an asymmetrical design, with a draped velvet shoulder detail on one side, a cluster of flowers on the other, seamed velvet and a lace overlay.
The skirt with asymmetrical brocade and bead detail, having a substantial train with interior dust ruffles and waltz loop, was trimmed with beaded lace that was applied by machine with an omni-directional foot.
